How TEC-Angel works

With TEC-Angel we’ve designed a system to gather as much information as possible about what is happening in the home, from a minimal, easy to install and unobtrusive set of sensors. With a movement sensor in each room and a very innovative door open/close detector. TEC-Angel can determine which room the person is in and how long they’ve been there, the temperature of any room they are in, and whether they are in the home or outside.

Combine this with some basic information you tell it about the person’s lifestyle such as normal sleep times, what times of day they might go out and what times of day they are normally in, and TEC-Angel can alert you to many of the circumstances that are indicative of a problem.

Installing the system

The information here provides all the information you need to set up your TEC-Angel product around the home and make sure you choose the right locations to get the best from your device.

Installing The Hub

When choosing the hub’s location:

  • Find a position roughly central between all the sensors and near a mains power socket
  • Once operating the hub is best left ‘out of sight, out of mind’
Installing The Movement sensors

For best performance:

  • Mount the sensors at chest height; they are most sensitive to movement across the sensor not towards or away from it
  • Near a doorway is often a good location to detect someone entering the room
  • If a room has multiple doors, placing the sensor in the main body of the room ensures detection of someone entering by either door
  • Place the sensor flat on a wall or cover a whole room from an unobstructed corner
  • Sensors should not ‘see’ through doorways into other rooms, avoiding any movement activating more than one sensor at a time

The movement sensors are pre-allocated to specific rooms and need to be installed in the correct rooms.

Installing the Door sensors

For normal hinged doors, fit a one-piece door sensor.

  • Place anywhere on the door provided the TEC-Angel logo is the right way up
  • The middle of the door at chest height is ideal where the panic button is easily reached
  • Keep away from anything metallic such as hanging coats with keys in the pocket

For sliding doors, fit a two-piece door sensor.

  • With the TEC-Angel logo the correct way up, the magnet must be on the right-hand side of the sensor
  • If more practical, mount the main sensor upside down with the magnet on the left
  • You can mount either the magnet or the main sensor on the moving part of the door
